After sealing the alliance on Tuesday, Kamal said that he welcomes seasoned politician Se Ku Tamilarasan for joining an alliance with his party. RPI state president Tamilarasan said that his party would contest one Lok Sabha seat and three Assembly bypoll seats as part of the alliance.
“We have decided to contest the Lok Sabha polls and the 18 bypolls to state Assembly in alliance with the MNM. We will be contesting in one Lok Sabha seat and three Assembly seats in the alliance,” he told reporters at MNM’s party office at Alwarpet.
Tamilarasan, who had won from the AIADMK ticket in the past, said that his party would contest in the torchlight symbol allotted to the MNM which has become popular in the short time. He said that there was a need for alternative politics in Tamil Nadu and Kamal would be able to provide one. On the charges made by CK Kumaravel, an executive committee member of the party, who resigned from MNM, the actor said that the party has already removed him.
“For the allegations raised by him, there are several people in the party at the lower levels to reply,” he said, adding that he did not make any accusations against him except that he could not reach him. Kumaravel, a wellknown entrepreneur, quit the party citing internal politics on Monday.
He alleged that the party acted against him for declaring his candidature from Cuddalore Lok Sabha seat while no action was taken against Kameela Nassar even after posters were put up stating that she would contest in the Chennai Central constituency.
Reacting to Kumaravel, who was party in-charge of Cuddalore and Nagapattinam districts, Kamal said that Kameela Nassar did not announce her candidature, but somebody else did.
“He had declared in the Facebook even before attending the formal interview for the candidate selections,” he added. A day after Kumaravel’s resignation, two of his supporters have resigned from the party. Cuddalore district in-charge Venkateshan and district youth wing secretary Navin Karthik have quit from the MNM.
‘Power star’ to contest in South Chennai
Meanwhile, ‘Power Star’ Srinivasan, claimed that he will contest in South Chennai Lok Sabha constituency representing Republican Party of India (RPI). He said, “only if I contest against powerful people I will come to know about my power”. He also said that apart from being an actor he has the support of large number of people and as RPI was involved in various social activities people of the state knew well about the party. “I am not concerned about others. If power is contesting the election will be powerful,” said Srinivasan.
