Lamps, pooja articles found in bus at Thanjai
The flying squad on Thursday afternoon seized eight gunny bags containing brass items-including lamps-from a Kumbakonam-bound omnibus near Thanjavur New Bus Stand.

A squad led by tashildar Sujatha intercepted the omnibus, reportedly arriving from Bengaluru, around 12.30 pm. After searching inside the vehicle, the officials went on to inspect the luggage area where they discovered eight gunny bags-holding brass items like lamps, pooja articles, temple bell, etc. As the crew produced invoice for only two of the eight bundles, the officials seized all the goods and handed it over to the Revenue Divisional Officer in Thanjavur.
Meanwhile, a flying squad led by Block Development Officer Ravichandran seized Rs. 2.40 lakh cash from a bike rider near Travellers’ Bungalow. Mohammed Harif (25), the rider from East Gate, said he was coming with the money from a textile showroom near Old Bus Stand and was on his way to deposit it in the bank. However, as there were no relevant documents produced, the flying squad seized the amount.
