The move comes after several women associations appealed to the government that priority should be given to fresh women graduates interested in entrepreneurship through Self Help Groups (SHG).

Accordingly, Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women (TNCDW) in association with various government technical institutions have proposed to implement a digital community radio with technology updates and professionally recorded content for the next six months.

The live content will include interactive programmes, interviews with officers, successful young entrepreneurs from various fields, motivational speeches, talks by NGO representatives, field officers among others.

“This is one of the powerful mediums to reach out to the SHGs and community-based organisations (CBOs) led by women, with relevant information from government, banks and other stake holders,” a senior official from TNCDW told DT Next.

He said that the dedicated channel will keep the user engaged with programmes on various subjects including awareness on Swach Bharat Mission, success stories, women issues, family health, mental health and experts’ advice. “The programmes that are telecast every day will also be available online and offline on the mobile app for them to listen at their convenience,” he said.

On the e-learning module, the official pointed out that the session will impart new skills to gauge their learning and upgrade their capacity and skills.

The official said to maximise the impact of the e-learning platform and community digital radio, it is proposed to make the platform and content available to the Panchayat Raj functionaries as it will raise awareness on flagship programmes of the State and Central governments.
