Case filed against 7 inmates of Vellore prison for protesting sudden checks

Vellore Bagayam police are investigating a case where a section of the prisoners in the Vellore central prison created ruckus and protested surprise checks conducted on Sunday.

The jail staff decided to conduct a surprise check in block 6 of the Vellore central prison after being tipped off that a prisoner, Guna, was supplying ganja to other inmates. When the staff started the inspection, they were opposed by other remand prisoners who created a ruckus inside the block. This resulted in additional staff to be called in to quell the disturbance. According to sources, some prisoners also broke the tubelights in theircells in protest.


The Bagayam police registered a case against seven prisoners including Guna, Gopi (27), Vikki (25), Surya (28) Santosh (30) and Saddam Hussein (32) andare investigating.


Sudden check are conducted in prisons as the staff often recover ganja and other banned products including cell phones and sim cards from the premises and from inmates visitors.
