Sources revealed that police swung into action following repeated complaints of sand being illegally quarried from the nearby Kamandal Mahanadhi near Allinagaram. Surprise checks were conducted and sand laden vehicles were seized and parked within the premises of thepolice station.

Two days ago, the police attempted to stop a sand laden tractor trailer, but the driver accelarated and tried to escape. When the police started to chase him, the driver knowing that he would be caught stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road and fled. The police then seized the vehicle and brought it to the taluk police station where due to lack of space they parked it on the path to the nearby court. The policemen, however, were shocked when the vehicle was missing a day ago.

A case has been registered and the police is trying tolocate the truck.
