Independent forces officials to count coins

Poll officials attached to Chennai Corporation on Monday had a tough day counting coins to a tune of Rs 25,000. Candidate Kuppal G Devadoss filed the nomination for the LokSabha polls along with coins brought in vessels.

Poll officials attached to Chennai Corporation on Monday had a tough day counting coins to a tune of Rs 25,000. Candidate Kuppal G Devadoss filed the nomination for the LokSabha polls along with coins brought in vessels.


Devadoss, an independent candidate from Amma Makkal National Party (AMNP) came with utensils of various shapes with coins in it. The police after thorough check allowed the independent candidate to file his nomination and Devadoss was seen enjoying the media glare. The total amount of the deposit was made up of coins Rs 10, Rs 5, Rs 2 and Re 1 denominations.


“This is not the first time that the candidate is doing this. He did the same thing during the previous Assembly poll and these are people who drain the officials off their crucial time,” a corporation official rued. An independent candidate also created flutter at the Tiruvallur Collectorate by filing a nomination in the reserved seat. The aspirant was explained that the seat is reserved and the nomination of general candidates cannot be accepted. However, the aspirant told the poll officials to reject his nomination officially when the forms are scrutinised.
