Rs 4.25 lakh cash seized in Kanchi
Flying squad officials seized a total of Rs 4.25 lakh cash in two separate incidents in Kancheepuram on Wednesday.
During a vehicle check near Irumbuliyur flyover, members of a flying squad signalled a car to stop, but the driver ignored and drove past them. Thereafter, the team stopped the vehicle after a brief chase.
Two men were found travelling in the car with Rs 2 lakh cash in the vehicle. During inquiry, they told the team that the cash belonged to a private caterer and they received it as advance for a marriage function. Since the duo could not furnish any documents supporting their claim, the money was seized and handed over to the Tambaram treasury.
In another incident, the officials during a vehicle check on GST Road found a two-wheeler rider carrying Rs 2.25 lakh cash with him.
The money was seized since he too failed to furnish documents for the cash, which was then later handed over to the Maduranthagam treasury.
