TNCC chief Alagiri begins poll campaign for Dayanidhi Maran

Alagiri will first muster support for DMK candidate T R Baalu in Sriperumbudur and his working president Jayakumar inTiruvallur.

The TNCC chief will release the election handout at the State headquarters Sathyamurthy Bhavan on Friday. After a two-day break, Alagiri would hit the campaign trail again starting from his native Cuddalore on April 1 and continue till April 8. The TNCC chief would addresse public meetings in most of the districts.

Going by the tour itinerary released by Sathyamurthy Bhavan, Alagiri would be covering two districts per day. The state Congress would be missing its star names, former TNCC presidents EKVS Elangovan and Su Thirunavukkarasar in the campaign as they would be held up in their respective constituencies. Elangovan and Thirunavukkarasar are contesting in Theni and Tiruchy respectively.

Notably, the star of all Congress campaigners, former Union Minister P Chidambaram is yet to release his campaign schedule. Chidambaram is currently busy detailing the minimum income support scheme across the country. In the past, Chidambaram was the prominent face who popularised the manifestos of both the DMK and Congress when they had contested together in the past. It was Chidambaram who had called the DMK manifesto the ‘star’ of the election in 2006, when the Dravidian major promised free rice and colour TVs.
