The School Education Department has laid out an ambitious plan to issue smart cards to more than 90 lakh students from across the State from the academic year 2019-20 at a cost of Rs 20 crore.
Accordingly, authorities have collected all the details of the students from both government and private schools and compiled it in the Educational Management Information System (EMIS).
A senior official from Directorate of School Education toldDT Next on Tuesday that during the final verification, it was found that many vital details such as parent’s name, address and among others were missing in the student’s information given by the school management.
“During scrutiny, even photos of the students were missing,” the official said adding,“Therefore, it was decided to ask the school management to recompile the student information within one month.”
He said the data of students generated under EMIS would have all the details about the candidate including the name, address, contact details of parents or guardian, Aadhaar number, category of the school, management of the school and the directorate under which the school functions.
According to him, students would have to wear the smart ID cards to school and at all entry and exit points in government school, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) scanners would be equipped. Accordingly, when a student enters or leaves the school, the scanners would automatically read the microchip data and send messages to their parents. A senior School Directorateofficial said the project has two main components - RFID scanners and ID cards fitted withmicrochips.
“An SMS would be sent tothe parents when students enter or exit the school,” he saidadding, “Smart card shouldcontain all the required details otherwise the purpose willnot be served.”
