Former district secretary M Moorthy was nominated district treasurer by District Minister KC Veeramani, however, Moorthy found that his proximity to the coalition candidate Shanmugam was being curtailed by another former district secretary and former minister VS Vijay.

During party dealings a few days ago, Vijay shot a few questions at Moorthy and thus irked him. Thereafter, Moorthy responded by asking Vijay to talk to Veeramani. Being the same caste ‘mudaliar’ of that of the candidate, Vijay used this ploy to invite the minister for dinner and complained to him about Moorthy.

When Moorthy got wind of this, it resulted in him not getting into the campaign vehicle with the candidate, despite requesting him thrice. Upset at this, Shanmugam asked party seniors to mollify Moorthy as the altercation was witnessed by the public. Meanwhile, Vijay wondered why Moorthy had refused to oblige Shanmugam despite his repeated requests.

What aggrieved Shanmugam was that Moorthy walked along with the vehicle in the hot sun much to the surprise of the assembled crowd. Hence, Shanmugam privately told both of them to bury the hatchet so that the campaign was not affected.
