Ponnusamy, president, Tamil Nadu Milk Agents and Traders Welfare Association, in a statement said, “Milk traders are the worst affected during the election time as money carried by them to procure milk from the milk societies are seized by the Election officials.
It is a well-known fact that milk agents do not have any proof for the money they carry to procure milk. Despite knowing this fact, the Election officials deliberately seize the amount.”
The election officials had recently seized Rs 2.28 lakh from a milk trader near Kovur in Kancheepuram district. The incident was widely criticised by milk agents and traders across the state.
Condemning the incident, Ponnusamy said milk agents usually collect money from sub-agents after supplying the milk to them.
The money is then used to procure milk from the societies in the morning. As milk agents collect money from various sub-agents, they cannot maintain any accounts for it, he said.
Ponnusamy demanded Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Satyabrata Sahoo to interfere in the issue and restrain Election officials from seizing money from milk agents.
