Stalin, while addressing an election rally seeking votes for the party’s Pollachi candidate Shanmugasundaram in Coimbatore on Thursday, made a sharp attack on Velumani.

The AIADMK Minister represents Thondamuthur Assembly segment in Coimbatore, which comes under Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency. In a no holds barred attack, Stalin claimed Velumani to rank topmost in corruption among others in the AIADMK. Stalin also vowed to send Velumani to jail once the DMK comes to power.

“We have strong evidence to prove his involvement in corruption. Even the local body polls were not conducted so that Velumani could award contracts to his family members for a commission,” Stalin said in the public rally.

Further, he also alleged that Velumani is helping to protect those involved in Pollachi sexual assault incident. Based on two separate complaints by AIADMK advocates Ramachandran and Vetrivel, the Thondamuthur and Kuniamuthur police have registered cases against Stalin.

The complaints said that Stalin has been dragging the name of Velumani by making false charges with an intention to malign his image among the public.

FIR’s were booked against the DMK president on Thursday late night under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 504 of IPC (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and 125 of Representation of People Act (promoting enmity between classes in connection with election).

A complaint has also been given by AIADMK advocates to Collector K Rajamani demanding action against the DMK leader. Further inquiries are on.

AIADMK lodges plaint against 5 sovereign gold loan waiver promise
The ruling AIADMK on Friday lodged a complaint against DMK president MK Stalin for promising gold loan waiver up to five sovereigns. This is a blatant violation under the model code of conduct, the AIADMK alleged. AIADMK advocate Muragavel, in his complaint, explained that the gold loan waiver announcement was a poll gimmick and clearly violated RBI norms. There were no provisions under the RBI norms to release pledged gold and it was a false promise given to the public ahead of polls, the letter explained. Stalin was misleading voters by spreading falsehood.
The Election Commission should take stringent action against him and his party by blocking their symbol immediately, the letter urged. AIADMK advocate Babu Murugavel also demanded the poll officials to add the expense of TTV Dhinakaran’s campaign into the accounts of AMMK candidates. AMMK was not a registered party and the Supreme Court made it clear that the the candidates of that party would be independents and there was no star campaigner exemption to the AMMK, which was not a registered party, the complainant argued. “The AMMK was spending huge sums for the campaign of its leader Dhinakaran. This should be audited as we see issues of poll code violations,” sources with AIADMK advocate wing said.
