Granite scam: ED attaches 45 properties

The Enforcement directorate provisionally attached 45 immovable properties of Mohamed Ibrahim Sait and others situated at Keelvalavu, Tiruvathavur, Thumbaipatti, Pudusukkampatti and Soorakundu villages of Melur in Madurai district valued around Rs 4.7 crore under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Mohamed Ibrahim Sait was charged with illegally trespassing into government unapproved rocky land, illegally using explosives endangering human lives, illegally using heavy vehicles, digging and taking granite stones from deep ditch from areas not licensed to him and thereby causing loss of revenue to the government. He had purchased many properties from part of such proceeds of crime in his and his family members’ name. Therefore, the properties identified during investigation were provisionally attached by ED.
