Rs 25 lakh seized from AMMK candidate’s kin
Income Tax officials on Friday seized Rs 25 lakh from the house of former minister P Palaniappan’s relative in Dharmapuri district.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of I-T staff descended in the house of Polliappan, a retired Tahsildar and close relative of former minister P Palaniappan, who is also the AMMK candidate for Dharmapuri Lok Sabhaconstituency.
The officials entered his house near Panchapalli in Dharmapuri district around 10.30 pm on Thursday and carried out the search till 5 am on Friday. They seized Rs 25 lakh in cash during the raid.
During inquiries, Polliappan claimed that it was his own money, got during retirement and were given by his sons working in reputed firms. However, the I-T officials seized the money as he failed to produce proper documents for the cash.
In another development, the flying squad officials seized over Rs 5 crore transported in a van in Dharmapuri district on Friday. Inquiries revealed that the money owned by a private bank in Salem was taken to be filled in ATMs by a private agency.
However, as they could not produce valid documents for the money, the election officials seized the money. This huge seizure of money comes two days after the flying squad officials recovered Rs 3.47 crore of money abandoned in a government bus in Dharmapuri district. The police are yet to pin downthe culprits.
