Tense moments at Nochikuppam during BJP campaign

The BJP workers, who went to fishing hamlets along Marina beach, on Thursday, had a tough time seeking votes for NDA candidates. Tension erupted when the residents, who were waiting for their turn to fill drinking water, picked up arguments with the BJP workers, who had arrived at Nochikuppam to campaign.

The residents started speaking against the Centre and warned the saffron party members not to venture into housing quarters seeking votes.

“They did nothing for the fishermen community and today they are coming and asking for votes,” fumed a few local fishermen. However, the BJP workers initially pacified the public stating the welfare schemes implemented by the Centre. When a few more youngsters joined the chorus, BJP workers, who noticed the media covering the incident, cancelled the campaign and left towards Triplicane.

However, the enthused BJP workers carried pamphlet invitations urging the public to participate in the polls and extend their support seeking a second term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP and AIADMK functionaries last Friday had a similar experience when they campaigned near Mosques in Madurai and Chennai.“There are vested interests promoting such acts near mosques and fishing hamlets. BJP is a party that promotes peace and our workers left the venue to ease tension,” said R Nandakumar, a BJP cadre based in Triplicane.
