4,000 violation plaints received, Chennai, Southern districts top
Model code violation complaints are pouring in with maximum number of cases coming from Chennai and southern regions. Till now close to 4,000 cases violating Model Code of Conduct has been received from different parts of the state.

The AIADMK also lodged complaint with the public election department stating that the rebel AMMK was using food delivery app services to distribute cash for foods. In his complaint, AIADMK advocate Babu Murugavel alleged that the AMMK was using the youngsters working as food delivery boys to lure voters.
“Most of the complaints failed to justify the violation and there are no factual evidences and the complaint on food delivery boys is one such,” quipped an informed official on poll duty.
“Till now 3,839 cases have been registered against the candidates and political parties in Tamil Nadu on charges of violating the Model Code of Conduct rules,” Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo told reporters on Saturday.
A detailed Election Commission report placed Greater Chennai region comprising four Lok Sabha seats (Chennai North, Chennai Central, Chennai South and Sriperumbudur constituencies) on the top of the list with 1,293 cases and a majority of them related to defacement of public property.
This includes 61 election-related cases in which cases under IPC sections are registered and another 51 cases under Representation of People Act, the report said.
South Zone comprising Madurai, Virudhunagar, Theni, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari seats follows Chennai region with 933 cases.
The Western region has recorded 837 cases. The Central Zone accounts for 525 cases. With 251 cases, North Zone has recorded the least number of cases.
According to public election department sources Tamil Nadu continues to be the topmost state in terms of cash and gold seizures to a tune of Rs 280 crore as on Friday.
