Police said Gloria (52), working in the housekeeping department of a private firm, used to quarrel often with her husband Rajan (54), a carpenter.
On Sunday afternoon, Rajan fought with his wife over her cooking and threw the food into the garbage bin. Angered by this, Gloria and son Vincent (25) quarrelled with him. In the melee, they pushed Vincent, who fell down and became unconscious.
They rushed him to Chromepet government hospital, claiming that he was hit by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the road.
Chromepet traffic police registered a case and were enquiring about the accident.
Meanwhile, Rajan was shifted to the government hospital in Chennai, where he died two days ago. But the post-mortem examination report revealed that Rajan was beaten to death.
When questioned, Vincent reportedly confessed that he and his mother had pushed him resulting in grievous injuries to him.
Following this, police arrested Gloria and Vincent on Saturday morning and remanded them in judicial custody.
