While campaigning in Pollachi for AIADMK candidate C Mahendran, the Chief Minister alleged that DMK president M K Stalin was trying to politicise the issue by talking about it at all the places.
“Only DMK will commit murder and close the case unsolved. But this government follows the footsteps of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and our duty is to get maximum punishment for the wrong-doers,” Palaniswami said.
While the DMK and other Opposition parties have been targeting the AIADMK on the Pollachi issue at their election campaigns, the Chief Minister has apparently for the first time opened up on the sex scandal.
The Opposition parties alleged that AIADMK cadre were involved in the scandal which hogged the national limelight and caused much embarrassment to the ruling party.
Defending Assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi Jayaraman, whose name has been dragged into the sex scandal, the Chief Minister, said that he was the first person to ask the victim to lodge a police complaint.
“Even the victim in an audio had revealed this. Her brother too asked not to politicise the issue. However, it was an unfortunate incident and anyone involved in this will be arrested, produced in the court of law and awarded the maximum punishment. Investigations into the issue are on the right track,” he said.
Dwelling further on the issue, Palaniswami listed out the measures taken by the AIADMK to ensure safety of women and children. “A special team headed by ADGP and three SPs have been formed to probe all sexual offences against women and children in allwomen’s police stations. Our motive is to prevent such occurrences,” he said.
