It is said that since the smuggler had not travelled in Chennai Metro train, he had planned to take the ride till Anna Salai from Airport Metro station and was completely unaware of the checks by election squads.
The arrested was identified as Asbak Hassan Feroz Khan from Triplicane. Around 11.30 am the security officials were scanning the baggage of the passengers who were about to travel on the Metro train. The security personnel while checking the baggage of Feroz Khan using the scanner, found that the baggage contains gold.
Soon, the officials enquired him and informed the Meenambakkam police station. Police who arrived at the spot checked the bag and found it contains gold. During further inquiry police found that Feroz Khan had reached Trichy from Kuala Lumpur at 4.30 am on Monday. Later, from Trichy he had boarded the private bus and reached Perungalathur in the morning. Police said Feroz Khan wanted to go to Triplicane and decided to travel in the Metro till Anna Salai from the airport as he had not travelled in the Metro. Since he was not aware that there would be a security check in the metro station, Feroz Khan was caught.
Police found that the gold was weighing about 510 gram worth Rs 18 lakh. The Meenambakkam police handed over the gold to the Meenambakkam election flying squad and later the gold was taken to the Alandur Treasury.
