Poll boycott: Officials buy time to shift Tasmac shop
With people resorting to poll boycott threats in a bid to highlight various infrastructure issues, residents of Thangam Nagar, VIP Nagar, Meenakashi Amman Nagar and Jogimadam on the Melalathur Road extended a similar threat for removal of a Tasmac outlet near Gudiyattam. Revenue and elections officials held talks with the residents at the Taluk office on Monday to sort out the issue.

The people living in various localities on the Melalathur Road had been demanding the removal of the Tasmac outlet in the locality which was causing a nuisance to commuters and residents of the area for a long time.
Though political parties and various organisations along with the affected public had requested both police and revenue officials to remove the outlet, it was of no use. Hence the affected people posted messages on social media that they would boycott the polls if the shop was not removed.
The issue, which went viral, came to the notice of officials resulting in a meeting to resolve it. The Tasmac district manager, KV Kuppam Assembly constituency assistant returning officer, police and representatives of the public participated in the meeting held at Gudiyattam Taluk office.
The officials sought two days’ time to initiate action. Representatives of the public informed officials that if no action was taken the boycott would become a reality.
