It is not just the crowd of general public, but the pack of cadre accompanying her campaign convoy were puzzled for a while as Tiruchy already has four Government Arts Colleges and a Government Engineering College in addition to the presence of a host of premier Institutions like NIT, IIM, IIIT and National Law School and many reputed aided and self-financing institutions.

Premalatha, who reached at TVS Tollgate after a delay of an hour at 11.30 am, commenced her campaign for the Tiruchy DMDK candidate Dr V Elangovan on Monday from Tiruchy Andal Veedhi and winded her way through Alampattiputhu, Kattur and Bhimanagar. While she addressed the crowd by sitting inside the campaign van, her party candidate stood and greeted the people with vanakkam.

“We will strive to bring a government arts and science college and also an engineering College to uplift the educational status of the people of Tiruchy”, said Premalatha leaving the cadre and the public.

In fact, apart from a few institutions, late Chief minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated the Government Arts College and Government Engineering College, in her home constituency Srirangam. She also brought the Indian institute of Information technology, Srirangam. “It looks like she is not aware of Tiruchy’s educational hub status. As a leader of the political party Premalatha should know or she should have verified such details with local functionaries”, said P Palanivel, an AIADMK functionary.

Topping it all, was the encomiums showered by minister Vellamandi Natrajan, a son of the soil, who shocked the locals by saying that he was seeing Jayalalithaa in Premalatha. As a final punch, the minister said ‘Anniyar’ (Premalatha) was the latest to join the list of bold women after Jaya and Velu Nachiyar.
