Navinkumar Patel (23) and his wife Sasikala (22) from Bihar were residing in Erode for the last six months and working in a dyeing factory. They befriended Nitishkumar (22) from Dindigul while they were returning to Erode from the northern State, the police said. Patel promised to get Nitishkumar a better job in a water packaging unit.
Believing this, the latter came to Erode a couple of days ago. However, he did not return to Dindigul, the police added. His mother complained to the Dindigul police stating that she had not heard from her son since the day he went to Erode to meet Navinkumar.
Acting on the complaint, the police arrived in Erode on Tuesday and with the help of cybercrime police tracked Navinkumar’s mobile phone and went to Navinkumar’s house where they noticed some blood stains.
The Dindigul police informed their counterparts in Erode, who inquired Sasikala and Rahul Datta, who said to be an associate of Navinkumar.
During interrogation, Sasikala and Datta admitted to have demanded a ransom of Rs one lakh from Nitishkumar’s mother, the police said.
Later, they killed him and chopped his body into pieces, and kept the remains in a gunny bag in their house, the police said. While Datta and Sasikala were arrested, the police have launched a hunt for the Navinkumar, who is absconding.
