Accordingly, each institution should create an exclusive portal where students, faculties and non-teaching staff could register their complaint. At present, only a few educational institutions in the State have the online portal for the students to lodge their complaints. A senior official from the Higher Education Department told DT Next that the All India Council for Technical Education mooted the initiative to establish a mechanism for online registration as well as disposal of grievances of students and faculties.
He said all the higher education institutions and universities would be instructed to put up the details of the online grievance redressal system such as URL of the portal, names, contact numbers and e-mail IDs of the grievance committee members in the notice board to create awareness. “This system will help speedy redressal of the grievances and reduce the problems of both the students and the staff of the institutions,” he added.
He said that the colleges should send an monthly status report regarding the number of complaints received, cleared and pending to the authorities concerned in the Directorate of Collegiate Education.
“If more number of complaints were registered on the portal, it would be an indication that the redressal mechanism of the respective college is not functioning properly,” the official said adding that this would be taken into account by the accreditation agencies.
The official also said that the authorities will take into account the performance of the grievance redressal mechanism when the institutions approach the government for funds and other activities that will be carried out in the college as well.
According to the official, all the colleges will be asked to submit a compliance report to the government after the online redressal system is established along with the photographs of notice boards installed or fixed by them create awareness among the students.
