With the election campaign coming to a close on Tuesday, DMDK leader Vijayakant stepped out for campaigning for the last couple of days. He campaigned for PMK candidate Sam Paul at Villivakkam bus stand on Monday evening.
Large number of supporters, mainly women, gathered to see Vijayakant, since 3 pm at the spot, but Vijayakant reached the spot only at 6.45 pm. They welcomed him with loud cheers when Captain’s car entered the campaign spot.
The ailing actor-politician was able to fold his hands and waved at the crowd by sitting inside the campaign van while Sam Paul was standing on top of the same vehicle and campaigning.
He uttered only few words and campaigned for Sam Paul. “People, vote for Sam Paul. Vote for PMK leader, Ramadoss’, symbol Mango,” said Vijayakant.
Immediately after the short address, he left the spot and people who gathered there were upset. “We though that he will come on top of the campaign vehicle and will at least wave his hands at us. Captain disappointed us,” said a DMDK supporter, Chitra from Ayanavaram.
Even PMK cadre were not happy at Vijayakant’s brief campaign. “Vijayakant is one of the important leaders in the alliance and his visit would have a big impact. We were expecting him to speak little more on the pressing issues and against the DMK, but he disappointed us,” said Masilamani, from Arumbakkam.
However, few DMDK cadre consoled themselves by citing the health of Vijayakant. “We know that Captain was ill and he should be appreciated for making it to the campaign spot. We are happy in seeing him on the road,” said Vishnupriya from Villivakkam.
