Addressing newspersons on the last day of campaign in Chennai, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar said, “Though the EC had doubled the number of flying squads, they are of no use as the DMK and AMMK distributed money to voters on Monday. The two parties have distributed Rs 200 to voters.”

When asked about the recent Income Tax raids, Jayakumar said the officials can also raid the houses of state ministers and AIADMK functionaries. “However, they will not recover any cash. We are facing the elections with the trust of the people and not by using money,” he said.

Jayakumar also criticised Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder-president Kamal Haasan for his party’s election advertisements. “His actions are dramatic. I have not seen any politician break the television for a stunt. This is not a healthy way of campaigning as children will be encouraged to do the same,” said Jayakumar, adding that Opposition parties would be washed away in the Jayalalithaa wave, which is currently being witnessed in Tamil Nadu.
