Stray dog on a biting spree, attacks 50 persons in Salem
A stray dog went on a biting spree injuring around 50 persons in Salem district on Friday.

The dog chased two-wheeler riders, pounced on bystanders and attacked all near Kalarampatty Street near Kitchipalayam for over an hour from 7.45am. As the dog was very aggressive, the public too didn’t dare to go near to bring the canine under control. On receiving information, the Corporation staff arrived to capture the animal. However, the dog gave a slip after biting two oftheir staff.
All the injured persons had gone to Salem GH but there was no adequate stock of vaccine resulting in tense moments. The hospital authorities, however, said that all the 50 persons who came to the hospital were vaccinated and provided treatment.
“Of them, 48 persons had left after treatment, while two persons who received severe injuries are undergoing treatment as in-patients,” said an official. Later the angry public chased and beat the dog to death. The dog is likely to be examined by veterinarians for rabies. Meanwhile, the public has urged the Corporation to take measures to control stray dog menace found in abundance.
