Inaugurating the national level annual conference on retina surgery, Reticon, Purohit said the technological advancements in surgical management of retinal diseases offered a significant improvement in the success rate of surgeries.

“While the system of medicine in which you have been trained has its own benefits, it is important that there is a continuous interaction between different medical traditions, whether modern or ancient, whether of the west or east, so that they could blend harmoniously and rid each other of their defects,” said Purohit.

He advocated the use of simple techniques for eye care stating that offering prayers to the morning sun helps in improving eyesight. “This is so, because it provides the automatic exercise for the ciliary muscles which envelop the eye lens. Similarly, another common technique that is practiced is to rub mustard oil on the soles of ones feet,” he said.

More than 600 specialists in retinal surgery from India and abroad participated in the conference, which was dedicated to Vitreo retinal specialists.
