Stalin urges cadre to keep vigil at strong rooms

Condemning the ‘shocking’ trespass of a Tahsildar allegedly into the strong room in Madurai, DMK president MK Stalin on Sunday urged his and alliance party workers to keep strict vigil there and save the EVMs from the ruling AIADMK. Stalin also asked the commission to deploy additional paramilitary forces and heighten security at the counting centres.

Expressing shock at the Tahsildar and a few others allegedly tampering the EVMs for over two hours during the unearthly hours, the DMKpresident said the trespass of the Tahsildar into the room, bypassing paramilitary security cover has raised numerous doubts.

Alleging that the Election Commission has failed to control distribution of cash for votes, including the personal involvement of Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, rigging by the AIADMK alliance and violent attack on Dalits in Chidambaram on polling day, Stalin who is also the Leader of Opposition said that it was highly condemnable that the Chief Electoral Officer of the state could not even protect the EVMs secured by the paramilitary forces.

Remarking that the incident has confirmed that it was not possible to safeguard democracy under the AIADMK regime, which was ably supported by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, Stalin said the democracy has been threatened by the election officers transforming into a puppet of the ruling party.

Claiming that the shocking incident in Madurai has raised a doubt if the EVMs would be safe in the counting centers for one month, Stalin advised his and alliance party cadre to step up vigil at the counting centers to protect the EVMs till the counting day.
