Parties condemn Sri Lanka attack

Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday expressed its strong condemnation and outrage on the serial blasts in Sri Lanka that have killed 290 people and injured 500 others.

In the statement, the Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) said that the horrific attack highlights how terror motivated by religious extremism is increasingly targeting minorities in the respective countries of South Asia. “This underlines the necessity to combat religious extremism in all its forms,” it said. The CPI (M) expressed its solidarity with the Sri Lankan people and conveyed its heartfelt sympathy to all the bereaved families. CPI State Secretary R. Mutharasan condemned the “acts of cowardice.”


AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam and co-coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami said, those behind the incidents were merciless to have attacked those worshipping. “We condemn the inhuman and merciless attacks,” they added in a joint statement. DMK president M K Stalin said the attacks broke his heart. “Be it communal or religious fundamentalist elements, they should be identified, and action should be taken against them,” he tweeted.
