Referring to the incident after a woman Tahsildar, who entered the EVM storage room in Madurai on Saturday evening in violation of the model code of conduct, the CPM candidate wondered how the District Election Officer could organise counting of votes effectively. Talking to reporters at the party office in Madurai on Tuesday, he doubted the ability of the District Election Officer, whom he said was responsible for such violations.

On the suspension of four officials, including the woman Tahsildar, he said they were made scapegoats since some higher officials were involved in the incident. Citing this, he sought a thorough enquiry into the incident and take necessary action. Moreover, he said except keys of storage room where electronic voting machines and poll related documents for Madurai West constituency, keys of other constituencies had been handed over to the District Treasury Office. It was the disputed storage room, where the woman Tahsildar entered and the keys of this room were yet to be handed over to the Treasury office, he said.
