It is reported that after the process was completed in Vettangudi-which was the first village to oppose the project of laying pipes-from Pazhayapalayam to Maemathur, the project had faced opposition from villagers of Nangur for the past two weeks.

The laying process, however, was carried out here amid police protection which neutralised the village opposition against a peace meeting that was held by the revenue officials on Wednesday.

It is said that the revenue and police officials had assured of another round of peace meeting in the coming days, but the project work resumed even without the knowledge of the locals who raised concerns over environmental threats.

The farmers here alleged that they have either been forced or lured into accepting land acquisition.
