Idol theft case: Supreme court uphelds Pon Manickavel's appointment

Around 66 police personnel had approached the Supreme Court challenging the appointment of Pon Manickavel as Special officer in Idol theft case.

IG Pon Manickavel, who was appointed as the special officer in Idol theft cases, was entrusted by the Madras High Court, on November 30, 2018.

The aggrieved Tamil Nadu government meanwhile filed a petition in Supreme court, which was later rejected.

In another recent development, the Supreme court had quashed the plea, filed by around 66 Police personnel against the appointment of IG Pon Manickavel, on April 26

The Supreme Court, thus upheld the orders of  Madras High Court, allowing Pon Manicakavel to perform his duties as head of the Idol Wing- CID, Chennai, sources said.
