Mom dies in suicide pact, son rescued
A 54-year-old woman from Salem committed suicide by jumping into the sea at the Marina, while her 25-year-old son, who followed suit, was rescued by police and fishermen on Friday morning.

Police identified the deceased as Revathi (54), who was living with her husband Selvakumar (60) and son Shanmugapriyan (25) in Ammapettai Udayar colony at Salem. Shanmugapriyan is has been working as a lecturer in Salem.
There were regular fights between Revathi and her husband; police suspect that the mother and son decided to end their lives because of this. On Thursday night, she and son boarded a bus from Salem. After reaching Chennai at around 5am, they went to Marina beach. After noticing the mother-son duo getting into the sea, a policeman dragged the youth out of water but Revathi she was already pulled by the waves. Her body was retrieved and sent to RGGGH.
