After rumours emerged of O Panneerselvam joining BJP, the three-time Chief Minister rubbished them in a press release stating that he would feel privileged if his mortal remain is covered with the AIADMK flag, founded by M.G.R and solidified by J Jayalalithaa.

Pannerselvam said, “Born to a humble farmer Ottakkara Thevar from Periyakulam, it is unbelievable that I have risen above the lower rung of the party to the highest position in the state. It wouldn’t have been possible if not for Amma Jayalalitha. The faith that honest and dedicated efforts will be recognised is given by the party, where I handled 3 crucial portfolios of Finance, PWD and Revenue. It is the basest of lies to tell I will switch to the BJP.” The co-convenor of the AIADMK told that he couldn't show enough gratitude to his Jayalalitha and her party.

Talking about the alliance with the BJP that was in loggerheads with AIADMK under Jayalalitha, he cited examples of Jayalalitha's bonhomie with the BJP. “ADMK allied twice with the BJP (1998 and 2004) and Amma was instrumental in APJ Abdul kalam's presidential nomination. Both Jayalalitha and Narendra Modi had mutual respect for each other, extending wishes to each other's election success. Our parties are united by our shared patriotism and spirituality.

“It is this spirit of congeniality passed onto us by our Amma Jayalalitha that has forged strong ties in our mega alliance with the BJP, DMDK, TMK, PMK, New justice party, Puthiya Tamizhagam, Puratchi Bharatham, All India Moovendar Munnani Kazhagam, Perunthalaivar Makkal Katchi, Samathuva Makkal Katchi and N.R Congress. Our political opponents are desperate to make inroads by any means, of which this baseless lie is a part. I urge the public not to heed to these canards against me and my loyalty towards Jayalalithaa and AIADMK,” said the Deputy Chief Minister.
