He added, “people are more hopeful of the DMK-led front’s victory in the Lok Sabha and Assembly by-elections.”
Speaking on the ‘mystery’ surrounding the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, Stalin said that the DMK would unravel it even as most supporters of the AIADMK also wanted to know the true reason of her death. Hence, the AIADMK supporters are also willing to support the DMK, he claimed.
While seeking people’s support for his party’s victory, Stalin said it was not just during the time of elections and for namesake the DMK had reached out to people, but the DMK was the only party, which was whether in power or not, had remained the voice of people, Stalin said.
He interacted with people representing public welfare associations and salt workers as part of his poll campaign at Spic Nagar in Thoothukudi on Thursday.
There’s no doubt that the DMK would emerge victorious from all Lok Sabha constituencies and bypolls to 22 Assembly constituencies as well. However, to retain power, the AIADMK has served notices to three MLAs, who were loyal to AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, he said.
The ruling AIADMK seldom bothered about people. “But I have submitted a resolution proposing a no-confidence motion against Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal,” the leader of the Opposition, said.
He further alleged that to save the government, the AIADMK had not conducted local body polls over the last seven years in the state. Stalin promised to conduct civic body polls when the DMK was voted to power.
Referring to the plight of salt workers, he said though there were rules framed in the interest of this workforce, such rules had not been implemented by this government. These salt workers would be provided with rain period relief when DMK comes back to power, he promised.
“Not even water bodies are desilted, ignoring concerns of farmers,” he added.
Kanimozhi, his sister and Rajya Sabha MP, who contested the Lok Sabha polls from Thoothukudi constituency last month, accompanied him during the campaign.
