PMK functionary murder: NIA team searches PFI office, 20 locations in Tiruchy
The NIA team investigating the murder of PMK functionary V Ramalingam (48) on Thursday conducted simultaneous raids in 20 locations at Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and Karaikal.

Searches were conducted in the houses of the arrested accused, absconding accused and offices of Popular Front Of India (PFI). The team, along with 50 officers, reached the PFI office in Palakkarai at 8 am. The searches continued till late in the evening.
Meanwhile, the searches at Thanjavur and Kumbakonam started at 10 am and continued till noon. In Thanjavur, the NIA team visited the PFI office on Nanjikkottai road. The team inquired about all those who had visited the office on February 3 and 4.
Similar inquiries were also held at SDPI office near Kumbakonam Fish market. The team also visited the houses of the 11 arrested in the case. The district police personnel provided security at the places where the NIA team held inquiries. In Karaikal, the NIA team searched the house of Muhammed Kuthoos, former district president of PFI in Karaikal and one of the accused in the case. His kin was questioned at 4 am and the office was searched at 6 am.
Sources said that a number of digital devices, including 16 mobile phones, 21 SIM cards, 3 laptops, 9 hard discs, 7 memory cards, 118 CDs and DVDs, 1 tab, 7 diaries,, 2 PFI banners, 1 DVR have been seized. Besides 1 sword, 1 sharp-edged knife and Rs 2 lakh cash were recovered from three different houses and about 100 incriminating documents have also been seized.
BJP initiating false propaganda against PFI: Karaikal Dist Secy
Karaikal District Secretary H Baduruddin alleged that the BJP is deliberately initiating false propaganda to malign the Islamic party’s name. He said that the party fully cooperated with the NIA team and the team also came out with a list of items they seized from the office. “The BJP in Karaikal is trying to malign us and defame us,” he said, adding, they would meet the District Collector and the police to formally launch a complaint.
