In a statement here, BJP state president V Saminathan MLA (nominated) said even after two years of the government fixing tuition fees for private schools and posting it in the Education Department website, it was not being implemented till date.
In Puducherry, the people are spending 30 per cent of their earning towards school fees for their children. While, in Tamil Nadu, a maximum of Rs 15,000 is being collected as tuition fees for Class 12 while, in Puducherry Rs 1 lakh is being collected right from LKG to Class 12. There is apprehension in the minds of people that Chief Minister V Narayanasamy has a nexus with private school owners.
Saminathan warned of protests if the government failed to check schools and cancel its licence for collecting more tuition fees within a week.
He said in the guise of enhancing quality of education, private schools are pushing parents in to a debt trap. No action was taken against the schools which collected ten times more than the prescribed tuition fees, he added.
