Class 11 results: TN records 95 per cent pass after new syllabus

Class 11 students in Tamil Nadu, who appeared for board exams based on the new syllabus this year, performed better when compared to last year, by securing an overall pass percentage of 95.

Despite the new curriculum being called tough by students and teachers, the overall pass percentage this year was higher by 3.7%. In 2018, it was 91.3%.


The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Government Examinations, which declared the results on Wednesday, said of 8.01 lakh students, who appeared for exams through schools, girls outscored boys with pass percentage of 96.5% as against 93.3%. The pass percentage of government schools stood at 90% this time as against last year’s 84.76%. The board exams were held from March 6 to 22.


While government-aided schools scored 96.6% pass percentage and matriculation schools got 99.1%, both figures have improved when compared to 2018.


Physics pass percentage was 94.6%, Chemistry (95.7%), Mathematics (96.9%), Biology (97.1%), Botany (91.1%), Zoology (93%), Commerce (91.23%), Computer Science (98.2%), Commerce (97.7%).


The Directorate said 2,634 of the 7,276 schools registered 100% pass percentage, which is higher than previous year’s figure of 2,054.


However, authorities, in a circular, have warned private schools from advertising student’s marks to secure new admission. “Strict action will be taken against those who flout rules,” the circular added. Students, who wish to apply for re-totalling, can submit their applications immediately in their respective schools. “Those who have failed could appear for the re-examination in June itself,” the circular added.
