Corporation schools better last year’s performance by 6 per cent

The higher secondary schools maintained by the Greater Chennai Corporation have registered a pass percentage of 93.52 per cent in the recently concluded Class11 board exams.

Of the total 4,833 students in 32 Chennai Corporation higher secondary schools who took the exam, 4,520 students cleared it, said the Chennai Corporation in a statement.


And, girls have once again outperformed the boys in terms of pass percentage. They have registered a pass percentage of 95.63 per cent against 89.79 per cent recorded by the boys. Of the 1,743 boys, 1,565 cleared the examination, while 2,955 girls of 3,090 girls secured pass marks.


Last year, the civic body registered 87.60 pass percentage, which is around 6 per cent lesser than the present score. “Fourteen students secured more than 500 marks and 74 students scored more than 450 marks in their Class 11 exams,” the release said.


Meanwhile, the Chennai Corporation higher secondary school in Nesapakkam registered 100 per cent pass score. The Nesapakkam school also featured in the list of four schools that recorded 100 per cent in the Class 12 public examination.


The city Corporation schools had crossed 90 per cent pass for the first time by registering a pass percentage of 90.41 per cent in the Class 12 results announced on April 19. In the Class 10 public exam, 92.44 per cent of students secured pass marks.


Meanwhile, the civic body has formed a steering committee to study and provide suggestions to improve the quality of education in the Chennai Corporation schools and increase the admission figures.
