AMMK working for DMK’s victory in bypolls, says EPS

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, while campaigning for AIADMK candidate P Mohan, who’s contesting from Ottapidaram (Reserve) Assembly constituency in Thoothukudi on Sunday, said that the AMMK is contesting not for its victory, but to help the DMK win.

The AMMK has entered into a secret pact with the DMK only to make the Opposition party win in the elections. Both these parties maintain good relations behind the screen, but act as foe in front, he added.

The AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran was not even a member of the AIADMK for over ten years earlier when J Jayalalithaa was chief minister. She expelled him from the party. Such a politician (Dhinakaran) tried to dismantle the AIADMK and topple government, but all his attempts failed, the Chief Minister said.

It’s AIADMK and its symbol ‘Two Leaves’ that gave life to Dhinakaran, but he moved Supreme Court with a deliberate attempt to freeze the symbol and hide the glory of the AIADMK, he added.

Citing these, the Chief Minister sought the voters to teach a fitting lesson to the AMMK in ensuing bypolls. It’s only because of the DMK, which filed a false case after moving court on baseless charge against Jayalalithaa, she was down with health problems and breathed her last in hospital, Palaniswami said.

Taking a dig at DMK president MK Stalin, the Chief Minister said he could not even bear the sun during his campaign on four consecutive days and to relax, Stalin was spending his time in Kodaikanal hill station with his family. “If Stalin continued to campaign under the sun, he would run away from politics,” Palaniswami quipped.

The DMK, which he said has made false promises to deceive people and looted public money during its regime, could never win polls. The DMK instigated people with an intent to create instability and tension. Except Tamil Nadu, no other state provided 100 units of free electricity to consumers and 39 lakh laptops to students. Only the AIADMK had offered compensation to drought hit farmers in Tamil Nadu, he noted.
