After a series of controversies, the much anticipated Teachers Eligibility Test (TET), which is mandatory for appointment of teachers in Tamil Nadu, will be held from June 8 and more than six lakh teachers have applied for it. The State government, however, told the 1,500 government teachers, who did not complete TET within stipulated time, to clear the exam or face action.

The Tamil Nadu Teacher’s Recruitment Board (TNTRB), the nodal agency of appointing teachers, on Wednesday announced that paper one of TET would be held on June 8 and paper II the next day. Secondary grade teachers, who teach Classes 1 to 5, would have to pass TET Paper-I. Likewise, graduate teachers, who handle Classes 5 to 8, would have to complete TET paper-II.

TNTRB, which has conducted TET thrice since 2011, had issued a notification in February, 2019, that online submission of application would commence on March 13 and end on April without mentioning the exact date of examination.

The board also announced that paper one, with total marks of 150, would have Child Development Pedagogy, Language, Mathematics and Environmental Studies. Similarly, paper two (150 marks), will have Child Development Pedagogy, Language, English. After that, candidates could choose either Mathematics and Science or only Social Science.

A senior TNTRB staff told DT Next that 6.04 lakh applications have been received. For paper one, 1.83 lakh candidates have applied and for paper two, 4.20 lakh applications have been uploaded online. “The date, time and centre for the written examination will be indicated in the hall ticket, which will be uploaded by the TRB in its official website,” he added.
