Manavaalan of Madurai, filed an appeal with the Madurai High Court against Tamil-illiterates' appointment in the Railways. This appeal follows the Thirumangalam trains-collision horror which was averted by a whisker, communication disparity was cited as a problem.
The appeal read that due to lack of vernacular exams the Tamil candidates are being systematically sidelined. Morever, it urged crucial posts such as Station masters, Loco pilots, Guards and Pointsman should be filled by Tamil-literates.
The Judges sought an answer from the southern railways' general manager and reserved hearing of the case for June 6.
