Rain skips city, goes to west and south TN

Even as isolated parts of Tamil Nadu continue to receive light to moderate rainfall, the temperature in the city is remaining at a maximum of 37 degrees Celsius. Though a dip in the temperature can be expected in the coming days, there are no traces of rain for the city, RMC officials said.

While Vellore, Coimbatore and Salem received 3-2 cm of rainfall on Sunday, various districts including the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall till Thursday.

Meanwhile, thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds of wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and lightning are likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu including the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, and Tirunelveli.

The city is likely to be partly cloudy, recording a maximum and minimum of 37 degrees and 29 degrees Celsius respectively in the next 48 hours.

On Sunday, the two weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees and 38.6 degrees respectively. The minimum temperatures remained at 28.9 degrees and 27.7 degrees.

Weather blogger Pradeep John stated that Chennai will get rains in June and the intensity of rains will increase by August and September.
