According to police, the incident took place when John Britto (28), a driver, was returning home with his friend Praveen after consuming liquor at a Tasmac bar on Sharadha Mill Road. They were approached by Godwin Raj (30), who was accompanied by his friends Milton and Kutti. The trio were also in inebriated condition.
Police said a verbal altercation broke out between the two groups over a previous enmity, which soon escalated into fisticuffs.
An agitated John Britto then took out a knife and stabbed Godwin Raj and escaped from the spot. Godwin’s friends immediately took him to a private hospital, where he was administered first aid.
Despite his critical injuries, Godwin and his friends visited Britto’s house late in the night and picked up an argument with the latter. He then stabbed Britto in front of his helpless parents before fleeing.
Though family members and neighbours rushed a critically injured John Britto to a private hospital, he died on the way. Meanwhile, Godwin, who received severe stab injuries too died without responding to treatment at a private hospital in Sundarapuram on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said both Godwin and John Britto were facing several assault cases. The Podanur police have registered a case and are on the lookout for friends of both the deceased persons.
