The Nungambakkam traffic enforcement inspector Jayavel told DT Next that the drive was carried out as per the instructions of Additional Commissioner (Traffic) A Arun and Traffic Joint Commissioner (South) Sudhakar.

“In a rush to deliver food on time, the food delivery personnel ignore the traffic rules. Though, they have rarely caused accidents, they put fellow motorists’ life at risk by speaking on the phone while being on the move. So, we advised them to obey traffic rules especially the helmet rule and warned them that they will not be allowed to deliver food if they were caught violating the road rules,” said Jayavel. About 70 food delivery personnel working for various organisations such as Swiggy and Uber participated in the awareness campaign.

Though we always book them for traffic violations, the scrutiny will be intensified, he added.
