‘Nel’ Jayaraman in text book: Wife thanks state government
The delta region farmers and family members of the late ‘Nel’ Jayaraman thanked the State government for including the organic farmer’s profile in the Class 12 textbook.

The reference about the contribution made by ‘Nel’ Jayaraman, who had collected more than 175 varieties oftraditional rice seeds, in the Botany text book have delighted the delta farmers.
Jayaraman was known for his tireless efforts to find and revive the traditional rice seeds with an aim to save them from extinction. He held rare rice seeds exhibitions every year for over a decade toimprove awareness amongthe people.
P R Pandian, the General Secretary of Tamilaga Cauvery Vivasayigal Sangam, welcomed the inclusion of‘Nel’ Jayaraman’s work in the text book.
“This would contribute to the development of interest among students about the traditional agriculturalpractices and organic food crops,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chithra Jayaraman, the wife of the organic farmer, told reporters that Jayaraman’s contribution in training the farmers in organic farming, conducting the Paddy festival was highlighted in the book. She thanked Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and School EducationMinister K A Sengottaiyan for the gesture.
