When DT Next contacted the actor about this, he confirmed that the rumours were untrue.
“Along with the hashtag, I heard about several rumours doing the rounds on social media about me being hospitalised. Some people even said my health was deteriorating. Let me clarify, these are mere rumours. I am in Madurai now for a family event and am quite healthy. I also wish my fans and the audience to remain in good health and more importantly, be happy,” Vadivelu said, laughing. He also said that he was unaware of the Neasamani hashtag that has taken social media by storm.
“What? It has become famous across the world? Oh god. It has gone to America and everywhere? Thank you,” he said, when contacted by this newspaper.
Vadivelu made his debut in 1988 with T Rajendar’s En Thangai Kalyani and rose to stardom, in the slapstick genre in the mid 90s, with the use of body language and quick-witted dialogues. More on P16
