The State government is also implementing various schemes for the development of destitute women, widows, destitute children and transgenders to ensure that they remain on a par with other members of society.
Palaniswami further said that the income slab has been hiked for the development of marginalised communities as well. “Like the marriage assistance schemes, the income slab for other social welfare schemes such as the scheme for free distribution of books and notes for children of poor widows, for admission in tailoring practice given by government, for admission in polytechnic colleges and for beneficiaries of welfare schemes for transgenders, slab has been hiked from Rs 24,000 to Rs 72,000 per annum,” the Chief Minister said.
Earlier, the demand to hike the salary slab for social welfare schemes was put forth by the leaders of the opposition in the State Assembly and Palaniswami had then assured that their demands would be considered.
