Three youth drown in quarry pits
Two youth reportedly drowned in a stone quarry pit, which was filled with water in the wake of recent rainfall, at a place near Thiruthangal in Sivakasi of Virudhunagar district, while taking bath on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as P Vijayaraja (16), and his relative M. Rooban (11) of Athiveeranpatti.
These victims, who attended a temple festival, took their time bathing in the quarry. While Rooban reportedly drowned after moving deep into the quarry, Vijayaraja tried to rescue Rooban, but subsequently drowned too.
The duo’s kin, after a frantic search, took the issue with the Thiruthangal police.
The duo’s bodies were later found floating in the quarry, sources said.
In a similar incident, a 13-year-old boy reportedly drowned in a stone quarry pit at Kalkulam in Dindigul while taking bath.
The deceased has been identified as R. Ragunathan of Morpatty.
