Viduthalai daily hailed for spreading Periyar’s ideology for past 85 years
The Dravidar Kazhagam’s official mouthpiece Viduthalai daily celebrated its 85th anniversary on Saturday. in that connection, Dravidar Kazhagam organised an event at Periyar Thidal in Chennai.

Speaking at the event, Communist Party of India (CPI) senior leader D Pandian praised the daily’s contribution in spreading the ideology of Periyar. He also requested the party to release a book on Periyar like ‘Knowing Mandela’ book.
Dravidar Kazhagam president and editor of Viduthalai K Veeramani released a special issue marking the 85th year of the daily. Recently, the students of Periyar Maniammai University had launched ‘sky NSLV-9’ satellite and the organisers screened the launching of the satellite at the event. Videos relating to the growth and achievements of the daily also had been screened.
The daily was first launched on June 1, 1935, by the Justice Party as a bi-weekly. Viduthalai was converted into daily in 1937. After getting published from various locations, the paper started to be published from Vepery permanently in 1965.
DMK founder CN Annadurai, Kuthoosi Gurusamy are the prominent figures, who have served as the daily’s editors. Present editor Veeramani took over the daily from Maniammai.
Veeramani handed over awards and mementoes to long time readers of the paper and present day and formeremployees.
Meanwhile, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, in a statement praised the daily and said that Viduthalai, despite lack of advertisement support is spreading rationalist thoughts and safeguarding the interest of the Tamils.
